A Surgical Treatment of Tuberculous Cervical Lymphadenitis


Abstract
Authors made a clinical analysis of 189 cases of tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis who were operated from January 1988 to December 1992 at Chung Goo Sung Sim Hospital.
@ES The result are as follows.
@EN 1) The most prevalent age group was fourth decade followed by third decade and female predominated over male by 1.9:1.
2) The most patients (60.4%) visit our cltin 3 months after they find their cervical palpable mass.
3) Unilateral location (76.2%) was more common than bilateral and the most frequent location of the lesion was anterior cevical triangle (28.6%).
4) Multiple masses were seen in 124 cases (65.6%) and single mass in 54 cases (28.6%), cold abscess in 11 cases (5.8%).
5) There were 58 cases with whom have positive chest lesion, in them 3 cases have active pulmonary lesion, and 28 patients have past medical history of tuberculosis, in them 26 patients have pulmonary tuberculosis and 2 pateints have tuberculous
lymphadenitis.
6) Simple excision was done in 156 cases (82.5%) and incision and drainage in 33 cases (17.5%).
7) Postoperative complication were as follows; serous discharge (12 cases), pus discharge (9 cases), wound tract (6 cases). seroma collection (3 cases), hematoma collection (2 cases ).
8) All patients except 8 received chemotherapy. The average duration of antituberculous medicationwas 12 mont
9) The authors experienced 12 cases of recurrences. The average interval from the time when start anti-tuberculous medication was 5 months.
